Living perfectly?
Trying to be emotionally perfect only leads to living a life of dissatisfaction and discontent. We were meant to live a perfect life in a world without sin. Once sin entered the world, all desires of living a perfect life went out the window. I don't know about you but I would love to live free of troubles, anxieties, diseases, discouragements or anything that can cause my spirit to faint or despair. Adam’s fall caused all of this in the world, a world that, by God's design, was supposed to be perfect, free of anything evil.
However, God, in His unmeasurable mercy, sent us a second Adam: “Our Lord Jesus Christ”. Through Him, we can have peace. That peace that you can only have when you come to Him in Faith. “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. (Romans 5:1).
We can go on in this world complaining about the way we feel and how unfair our life is. We can even go as far as blaming God for all our perils claiming that He hasn't been just enough or that His grace is not sufficient in our troubles, but what a blasphemy this is! In fact, we must search our hearts and souls and be honest with ourselves and recognize that there's sin in us and that might be the cause of our perils. Sometimes it might not be your sin. Sometimes it could be the mighty hand of God that allows storms in your life for you to find out who you really are and for you to find out who He really is, but the main thing God is trying to do is glorify His Name through your whole ordeal.
It's not easy to get to a point where you live your life mainly dependent on God but let me assure you that our God is a God that never wastes anything. Your pains, your diseases, your discouragements, your unhappiness or any trial are never a waste in His sovereign eyes. The question is: are your trials a waste for you? My friend, let me encourage you with the words that were spoken by a man who was dying from cancer: “Lord, don't let me waste my cancer”. Isn't that amazing? Isn't that worthy of imitation? In this man's heart was a deep desire of glorifying his Lord. Even in his weakest moments, he was wanting God to do wonders in his life whatever that might have been. He wanted to glorify God regardless of his condition.
I think we can learn a lot from this man. I think instead of wanting to feel perfectly physically or emotionally, why not turn it around and glorify our God who acts perfectly. He created this world perfectly. He planned our redemption perfectly. He planned your individual salvation perfectly. He has loved you perfectly. Don't you think the One who is perfect can give you the perfect peace when you don't feel perfectly? “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you”.(Isaiah 26:3 NIV).
Ah trust! Do you trust the One that can give you perfect peace? And this is not a cheap peace, this is not a peace dependent on circumstances, and if He is our firm foundation, our solid Rock, our peace should be dependent on Him because He does not shake!
I think we should revisit the whole wanting to feel perfectly situation. It does not exist. It will never exist on this side of eternity. In heaven it will, but not here. Let's lean on the God of peace and the Prince of peace to give us that peace that surpasses all understanding. Only then, we shall be able to feel true peace in our souls. Are you still stuck in wanting to feel perfectly? Trust in Him!
