Don't waste it!

It has been said that "God doesn't waste your sufferings" meaning that you are suffering for a purpose of a very high caliber because it was designed by him for you! So don't waste your sufferings, take them as an opportunity instead.    To all of you who are suffering with chronic diseases like me, don't lose hope because in reality, it can't be lost because your real hope  is Jesus. Every morning, I have to make a decision. Am I to succumb to the heavy burden of my morning symptoms or am I going to take them as an opportunity? I decide the latter! Why? Because God has given me the strength and the vitality to do what I can while going through those symptoms. Can I do it all? No, but I can do some. It is my desire to do a full blown exercise routine, but that's not possible. Instead, I use very light weights to pump my heart as much as I can, I stretch my muscles, but most importantly, I take the opportunity to listen to the voice of God. As a matter o...

Half an hour miracles

Half an hour Miracles       I try to be very careful not to overwhelm you with my disease, but when God does something wonderful in my life, I have to share it. I hear His voice and His Spirit nudging the depths of my soul to encourage me to write something that might be beneficial to someone.      This is day number four of my vacation and like any other day, I got up earlier than I would like to. It's typically one or two hours before I have to take my first dose of Parkinson's medications. It's usually very uncomfortable to have to wait until I can take that first dose. Muscle contractions and a tightening of my chest are among other bothersome symptoms I have to deal with before that first dose of medications get to my brain and start doing their magic.       Today, it started no differently. I got up with a twisting leg and curling toes that seemed to have a life...

What do you want me to pray for?

Prayer is one of those things that each one of us approach in many different ways. Some of us have a very specific time and place in which we pour our hearts to the Lord. Some of us, pray as we go. Some of us take to heart the instruction of the apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5:18: " Pray without ceasing". We pray in our cars on our way to work, at the gym while we're exercising, at the grocery store, in the kitchen when we're cooking, at the park when we're running and the list goes on. Prayer must be an essential part of our lives if we want to keep our line of communication with God wide open. That's our personal prayers to God. What about those people who are constantly asking other people what they can pray for them? Those people are a great gift to us all! Those are the people that are concerned about you, your family, your well-being, your relationship with the Lord and many more things. Those are the sweet prayers of a prayer warrior! The other day a...

Living perfectly?

Trying to be emotionally perfect only leads to living a life of dissatisfaction and discontent. We were meant to live a perfect life in a world without sin. Once sin entered the world, all desires of living a perfect life went out the window. I don't know about you but I would love to live free of troubles, anxieties, diseases, discouragements or anything that can cause my spirit to faint or despair. Adam’s fall caused all of this in the world, a world that, by God's design, was supposed to be perfect, free of anything evil. However, God, in His unmeasurable mercy, sent us a second Adam: “Our Lord Jesus Christ”. Through Him, we can have peace. That peace that you can only have when you come to Him in Faith. “‭Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. (Romans 5:1). We can go on in this world complaining about the way we feel and how unfair our life is. We can even go as far as blaming God for all our perils claiming that H...

God, get me to Sunday!

It is amazing to see how the Lord works through you to accomplish His plans. I have Parkinson's disease and sometimes is very hard to do the things I need to do: taking care of my family, working my part time job and preaching on Sundays to my awesome Spanish congregation which I Iove very much! I could have never imagined being called by God to preach and then years later, getting a diagnosis of a neurodegenerative disease. I've been preaching for many years in the absence of my pastors but now, I'm preaching consistently every Sunday. Due to the nature of my disease, every day is an up and down that gives my day such an emotional inconsistency, that some days it's hard to bear. That's why I've coined the phrase: ‘Lord, get me to Sunday. That's my prayer everyday because in the very bottom of my heart, that's my desired to do until he calls me home or to do something else. He gives me grace every day and specially Sunday when he gives me a special gra...

God gives grace! (Parkinson's Part 3)

The name John, in the Hebrew is a word that is comprised of two syllables; the word "yah" that means Yaweh and the word "hanan" that means gracious. In other words, the name John means Jehova is gracious or God is gracious. The name John in Spanish is Juan which happens to be my name. Isn't it interesting that you've been given a name that pretty much has characterized your whole life without you even noticing it until now? I've been dealing with Parkinson's disease for almost three years now and even though I've been under the care of great doctors, and taking care of myself the best I can, you can't escape the fact that it  is a degenerative disease and it can cause havoc as it advances. Unfortunately, my Parkinson has progressed. I'm at a point where my meds need to be increased to find once again a happy level that can be tolerated. You wonder: How do you know it has progressed? Well, thankfully, for me, it's not a matter of shak...

The best life summary ever told Part-2

So far in this amazing summary of Jesus life we've talked about His incarnation, His resurrection, His manifestation and His Gospel. Quite a life, isn't it? Now let's look at the last two: 5. His followers.      Not only did Jesus preach the Gospel Himself, but he trained others to preach it as well (Matthew 28:19-20). He was the top Fisherman who told us that, if we followed, He would make us fishers of men.      "...If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" Paul told us in Romans 10:9 and that qualify us as His followers. Also, before we even came to believe in Him, Jesus offered a prayer for us to His Father. Jesus said: “I do not ask for these only (His followers at the time), but also for those who will believe in me through their word (His future followers)" (John 17:20).   I think it's kind of amazing that Jesus took time to pray for all of us who will ...
